What should you know before you buy a Spanish number?
Four cañas on the bar, four facts, poured from full to the last of the foam. Spain is the country where you ask first whether +34 is worth the price.
Which Spanish number do you actually need?
Spanish paperwork happens at a ventanilla, a counter window with a number above it. Searches for “Spanish phone number” queue at four different windows. Take yours and the clerk answers honestly whether VSIM can help.
Yes, VSIM sells this.
A Spanish number for one SMS code
You are signing up for an app and need a +34 number that receives the verification code now. That is what VSIM sells: pick the app, get a number, read the code on your order page, and get the full price back if no code arrives.

The same number every time you log in
A one-code number goes back to the pool after 20 minutes, so next month’s code would reach someone else. For an account you will log back into, use a permanent number. VSIM sells permanent US numbers.

A number for Bizum or a Spanish bank
Bizum sends money to a mobile number linked to an account at a Spanish bank, and one number can be linked to only one account. A rented number cannot hold that link. Use your own line.
Not something VSIM sells.
A SIM card for life in Spain
Moving to Spain? A SIM from Movistar, Vodafone or MasOrange gives you a number of your own. Since a 2007 law every prepaid card must be registered to its owner with an ID document such as a DNI, NIE or passport.
Which apps get their code on a Spanish number today?
Pimientos de Padrón come with a warning: unos pican y otros no, some are hot and some are not. Here every app sold on +34 is a pepper, coloured by its rate, and the pale ones have not been measured, so you cannot tell until you bite. 38 of 225 apps have a measured rate.

Is a Spanish number worth it, or is a neighbour better?
Padel is Spain’s favourite racket game, played in a glass box. Here each app is a match: Spain against the best of Portugal, France, Italy and Morocco. A missed code is refunded, so a miss costs time, not money: the point goes to the route more likely to deliver, and when the two are within 10 points of each other, to the cheaper one. The ball lands on the side that wins. Spain wins 4 of 19 matches.
Rate = share of recent orders that got the code. You pay only for a code that arrives, so the likelier route wins; within 10 points, the cheaper one. Only countries with a measured rate for the app play.
Where does Spain rank in the world for each app?
In Catalonia, castellers build human towers, tier on tier. Here each app is a tower as tall as Spain’s place in the world ranking by delivery rate: nine tiers is near No. 1, one tier is near last. 9 of 22 apps place in the world’s top ten.

Get a Spanish number for InstagramWhy do WhatsApp, Amazon and Discord work better elsewhere?
We can measure it, not explain it: few recent orders for these apps on Spanish numbers got a code, while the same apps do well in other countries. Spanish navigators steered by the compass rose; pick an app and the needle points to the country that delivers it best today.

Is a Spanish number cheap next to the rest of the world?
Often not. On this abanico, the painted Spanish fan, each rib is an app, coloured by where its Spanish price ranks against every country selling it: green ribs are among the cheapest in the world, red ribs among the dearest. For 13 of 24 apps Spain is at or below the middle price, and 6 sit in the dearest tenth. Tap a rib.

Is Spain or another country better for your app?
Eleven strings on a Spanish guitar: Spain, its neighbours, the big European routes and three Spanish-speaking countries of the Americas. With no app picked, each fret marks the apps at 50% or more; Spain is No. 5 of 11, behind Portugal. Pick an app and each string plays that country’s rate.
Spain has 12 apps at 50% or more and 38 measured, from 226 on sale. Portugal, next door, has 18 from 226.
Who orders a Spanish number, and what arrives today?
In the white villages of Andalusia and the patios of Córdoba, blue flowerpots hang on whitewashed walls. Six pots, six reasons people order a +34 number. Pick a pot.

Spain is joint No. 20 of 91 countries in our log by codes delivered: 10 codes from 31 May 2024 to 11 October 2026. A small number, and we say so: one churro on the plate for each code. Our per-app records name Spain only where it was among an app’s busiest countries.

What does a Spanish mobile number look like?
Nine digits after +34, written in threes: +34 612 345 678. Spain moved every number to nine digits on 1 December 1998, folding the old 9 of the area code into the number, so there is no trunk 0 to drop. The first digit tells you the kind of line.
Numbers keep their digits when they move between Movistar, Vodafone and MasOrange, so the first digits do not tell you the network. Numbers starting 70 are personal numbers, not mobiles.
What can a rented Spanish number not open?
Post that cannot reach its address comes back stamped “Devuelto al remitente”, returned to sender. Six envelopes here, six things a one-code number cannot receive, because it goes back to the pool after 20 minutes. Open one to read why.
Bizum transfers
Bizum links a mobile number to one account at a Spanish bank and sends money to that number. A rented number is gone after one code.
A SIM in your name
Every Spanish prepaid card must be registered to its owner with an ID document. A virtual number is not a SIM card and does not replace one.
Bank codes
Banks send a code to the number on your account each time you log in or pay. The second code would go to a stranger.
Couriers and appointments
Couriers and offices text the number on the booking, often days later. It must still be yours.
Accounts you log back into
Any app that will ask for a code again next month needs the same number next month.

VSIM numbers receive SMS only. When an app offers to call you, pick the text message.

How do you get a Spanish number and receive the code?
Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago follow yellow arrows painted on walls and stones. Four stops on the way, four steps for your order: about two minutes, then the wait for the SMS. Tap a stop.
Open the order page, choose the app, then Spain. If the app has no Spanish rate, the page shows a country with a known one.
Top up from $1 in crypto first. The price comes off your balance when the number is issued and goes back in full if no code arrives.
Choose Spain, +34, in the app’s country list, then type the nine digits, starting with 6 or 7. Ask for the code by SMS, not by call.
The code appears on the page as soon as the SMS lands. If nothing comes within the timer, at most 20 minutes, the order closes and the price goes back to your balance.

Order a Spanish numberWhich mistakes cost people their code?
At La Tomatina in Buñol everyone gets hit. Four splats here, four mistakes that cost people a code. The first is measured across 13,062 of our one-time orders.
Retrying the same route straight away
After a failed order, buying again on the same route got a code 13% of the time (4,435 retries). Switching to another route for the same country got 21%, and switching country 11%. Most people retried fast: 5,565 of 8,105 retries came within two minutes.
Buying +34 by habit
Signal delivers 71% on +34 and 88% in Portugal. Each miss is refunded, but each can take up to 20 minutes. Check the padel court first.
Adding a 0 after +34
Spanish numbers have no trunk 0. +34 0612 345 678 is ten digits and fails; +34 612 345 678 is right.
Using a free public number
Numbers on free SMS websites are shared with everyone who opens the page, and most apps have seen them before. What we saw on one.
Which Spanish words will you meet around a code?
Madrid’s old street names are painted on ceramic plaques with a picture of what once stood there. Eight plaques here, one phone word each, from the móvil in your pocket to the code that did not come. Turn a corner.

Where do the figures on this page come from?
- Prices and ratesVSIM’s live price list for Spain and every other country, refreshed every 15 minutes. A rate is the share of recent orders on a route that received a code; routes without enough recent orders show “not measured”. Tries per code is 100 divided by that rate. A missed code is refunded, so the rate measures time, not money.
- Our own recordOne-time orders counted from VSIM’s database, 31 May 2024 to 11 October 2026: 10 codes on Spanish numbers out of 3,463 codes in total from 13,062 orders.

What is a Spain virtual number for SMS verification?
A real Spanish +34 mobile number you rent on VSIM for one SMS code, with no SIM card, no contract and no ID. You type it into the app, read the code on your order page, and the number is yours for up to 20 minutes. If no code arrives in that time, the full price goes back to your balance.
How much does a Spanish virtual number cost?
Today Spanish numbers cost from $0.11 to $3.59 across 226 apps, and half of them cost $0.26 or less. For 13 of the 24 apps on the abanico the Spanish price is at or below the middle of all countries; 6 are among the dearest tenth in the world.
Is a Spanish number worth it, or is Portugal better?
It depends on the app. A missed code is refunded, so what a miss costs you is time; the better route is the one more likely to deliver, and the cheaper one when the rates are within 10 points. By that rule Spain beats Portugal, France, Italy and Morocco for Netflix (65% for $0.46), Glovo (57% for $0.83), Instagram (47% for $0.28) and X (24% for $0.29). For the other 15 apps measured in both, a neighbour is the better route. The padel court on this page shows each match.

How do I type a Spanish number into an app?
Pick Spain, +34, in the app’s country list, then type the nine digits: 612 345 678. Spanish numbers have no trunk 0, so there is nothing to drop. Mobiles start with 6 or 7; numbers starting with 9 or 8 are landlines.
Why do Spanish mobile numbers start with 6 or 7?
Spain has used nine-digit numbers since 1998, with mobiles in the 6 range. When those ran short, a law of October 2009 opened the 7 range to mobiles too. Numbers move between Movistar, Vodafone and MasOrange and keep their digits.
Can I use a virtual number for Bizum?
No. Bizum links your mobile number to one account at a Spanish bank and sends money to that number. A rented number is gone after one code.
Do I need ID to get a Spanish number on VSIM?
No. Spanish prepaid SIM cards must be registered with an ID document under a 2007 law. A VSIM number is rented for one code and is not a SIM card, so no document is asked for.

Usually not: Portugal have more apps at 50% or more. Apps at 50% or more today: UK 35, Portugal 18, Netherlands 15, Argentina 14, Spain 12, France 11. Spain places No. 5 of 11. The guitar on this page compares each app country by country.

Can I keep a Spanish number after the code?
No. A one-code number is yours for up to 20 minutes. If you need codes on the same number again, VSIM sells permanent numbers in the United States.
¡Hasta luego!
