Which Bulgarian number do you actually need?

In Bulgaria a shake of the head often means yes and a nod means no, which surprises most visitors. “Bulgarian phone number” means four different things. Pick yours and watch the head.

Which way of getting a Bulgarian number fits you?

The painted houses of Old Plovdiv lean their upper floors out over the cobbles. Five ways to a Bulgarian number, five houses, five windows each: a lit window is something that way can do, a shuttered one is something it cannot. Knock on a house.

Which apps get their code on a Bulgarian number today?

The Rose Valley around Kazanlak is picked by hand at dawn every May and June. Every app sold on +359 is planted here: roses in full bloom deliver 50% or more, buds 20 to 49%, wilting roses under 20%, and unplanted plots have too few recent orders to measure. 26 of 129 apps have a measured rate.

Updated 24 Oct 2026, 15:00 UTC. Each plant opens its order page, or a country with a known rate when Bulgaria has none.

Is a Bulgarian number the best route, or is a neighbour better?

Every Bulgarian market still has a кантар, the beam scale. Here each app is weighed: Bulgaria on one pan, the best of Romania, Greece, Turkey, Serbia, North Macedonia and Croatia on the other. A missed code is refunded, so the likelier route outweighs; when the two are within 10 points, the cheaper one does. Bulgaria wins 3 of 12 weighings.

Rate = share of recent orders that got the code. Only countries with a measured rate for the app are weighed; an app with no measured Bulgarian rate is not weighed at all.

Where does Bulgaria rank in the world for each app?

The Roman theatre of Plovdiv still fills for summer concerts, almost two thousand years after it was built. Each app takes a seat by Bulgaria’s place in the world ranking by delivery rate: the front row is the top fifth of all countries, the back row the bottom fifth. 4 of 22 apps place in the world’s top ten. Signal (No. 22 of 22) sits at the very back.

Why do WhatsApp and Google work better outside Bulgaria?

We can measure it, not explain it: for these apps few recent orders on Bulgarian numbers got a code, or too few exist to measure, while the same apps deliver well in another country. Every autumn white storks gather over Burgas on the Via Pontica and fly on south. Each app here is a stork, flying to the country where its code lands.

Is a Bulgarian number cheap next to the rest of the world?

Troyan pottery is glazed in drips of brown, green and blue. Each jug here holds one app, as tall as its Bulgarian price against the middle price of every country that sells it: a short jug is cheaper than the world, a tall one dearer, and the dashed line is the middle. For 15 of 24 apps Bulgaria is at or below the middle; 6 sit in the cheapest quarter. Since 1 January 2026 Bulgarian shops price in euro; VSIM prices stay in US dollars.

Is Bulgaria or another country better for your app?

At every Bulgarian wedding the guests join hands in a horo, a chain dance that winds round the floor. Here ten countries dance it; each dancer’s size is its count of apps that deliver 50% or more. Bulgaria is No. 3 of 10, and Romania, its neighbour across the Danube, has 4. Pick an app and each dancer shows that country’s rate for it.

Bulgaria has 7 apps at 50% or more and 26 measured, from 129 on sale.

What does a Bulgarian mobile number look like?

At home it starts with 0: 088 123 4567. In an app the 0 goes and +359 takes its place: +359 88 123 4567. Every Bulgarian mobile has nine digits after the country code and starts with 87, 88, 89 or 98. Those prefixes began with Vivacom, A1 and Yettel, but numbers can move between operators, so a prefix does not prove the network.

What can a rented Bulgarian number not open?

Each winter the kukeri dance through Bulgarian villages in fur, horns and heavy bells to chase bad spirits away. Six kukeri stand guard here, each one blocking something a one-code number cannot reach, because it goes back to the pool after 20 minutes. Lift a mask to read why.

What it does open: a sign-up you finish in one sitting, on an app that sends one SMS code. Need the same number later? See permanent numbers.

How do you get a Bulgarian number and receive the code?

Rose oil is made in copper stills: petals go into the pot, steam rises, the condenser cools it and the oil collects drop by drop. Four stages, four steps: about two minutes of work, then the wait for the SMS. Pick a stage.

Pick the app and Bulgaria

Open the order page, choose the app, then Bulgaria. If the app has no Bulgarian rate, the page shows a country with a known one.

Are you ready to order a Bulgarian number?

On 1 March Bulgarians tie red-and-white martenitsi on each other’s wrists, then hang them on the first blossoming tree they see. Six checks before you order: tick each one that is true and a martenitsa goes on the branch.

0 of 6 martenitsi. Tick what is true for your order.

Which mistakes cost people their code?

On Bulgarian Black Sea beaches the lifeguard flag tells you whether to swim: green, yellow or red. Four mistakes, flagged by how much they cost you; the first is measured across 13,062 of our one-time orders.

Red flag

Retrying the same route straight away

After a failed order, buying again on the same route got a code 13% of the time (4,435 retries). Switching to another route for the same country got 21%, and switching country 11%. 5,565 of 8,105 retries came within two minutes.

Red flag

Green flag: pick the app’s best route, request the code once, wait up to 20 minutes, and let a miss refund itself.

Which Bulgarian words will you meet around a code?

Cyrillic is the alphabet of Bulgaria, and Bulgarians celebrate it every 24 May. Eight words you will see on Bulgarian apps, SIM packs and shop counters. Turn a tile over to read what it means and how it is used.

Has VSIM delivered codes on Bulgarian numbers before?

Not yet. Bulgarian shepherds once kept accounts on a рабош, a stick with one notch per item. Ours counts every one-time order from 31 May 2024 to 11 October 2026: 3,463 codes in 46 countries, and no notch for Bulgaria. Our buyers have mostly used US, UK and Canadian numbers, so the Bulgarian rates on this page come from recent orders across the whole service, refreshed every 15 minutes, not from our own history. We would rather show you an empty notch than a made-up one.
