Is there a free virtual number for SMS verification?

Yes, but it is a public noticeboard: free SMS websites show every code their numbers receive to anyone who opens the page, and most apps already block those numbers. They are fine for a throwaway sign-up. For an account you want to keep, a private number costs from $0.06 and is refunded if no code comes.

What did we see when we opened free SMS numbers?

On 19 October 2026 we opened the first nine numbers listed on the home page of a free SMS website that ranks for "receive SMS online". 4 of them showed a full page of about 40 received messages, many from the last hour, open to anyone. The other 5 showed nothing. We did not copy any code.

A busy public number is busy because hundreds of people use it, which is also why apps stop trusting it.

What can go wrong with a free virtual number?

Anyone can use your code

The page that shows your code shows it to everyone. Someone can sign in with it before you do, or later reset the account's password to the same number.

The number is already used up

Apps cap how many accounts one number can verify. Google refuses a number "used too many times for verification"; Discord refuses VoIP and burner numbers.

The next person inherits it

When the site rotates the number, whoever gets it can receive your account's future codes.

Nobody answers if it fails

No refund, no support, no way to know whether the code is on its way or never coming.

What else do people ask about free numbers?

Is there a free virtual number for SMS verification?

Yes, free SMS websites list public numbers and show every message they receive on an open web page. They cost nothing, but anyone can read the codes, and most apps already refuse those numbers. For a code you want to keep private, a rented number from $0.06 is the cheapest reliable option, and it is refunded if no code arrives.

Are free SMS numbers safe?

Not for anything you want to keep. The code is visible to everyone who opens the page, so someone else can use it, or later request a password reset to the same number and take the account. Use them only for throwaway sign-ups you do not care about.

Why do apps reject free virtual numbers?

Apps limit how many accounts one number can verify and block numbers linked to abuse. Google, for example, refuses a number that has been used too many times for verification, and Discord does not accept VoIP or burner numbers. Free public numbers hit these limits first.

What is the cheapest private alternative to a free number?

Today the cheapest number on VSIM costs $0.06. The board on this page shows the cheapest routes that still deliver 20% or more for popular apps, and a number that receives no code is refunded.

Can I keep a free number?

No. A free number is shared with everyone and can disappear from the website at any time. A rented VSIM number is private but also temporary; for a number you keep, see VSIM permanent numbers.
